DEVONPORT warships HMS Albion and HMS Bulwark will not be scrapped or mothballed, Defence Secretary Grant Shapps has said on a visit to Plymouth.
The Cabinet minister said both vessels, currently being worked on at Devonport Dockyard, were essential for the Royal Navy and Royal Marines until newer vessels arrive. He added that the two landing platform docks would remain in service until at least 2032.
Mr Shapps said speculation over the future of the vessels in the media has been incorrect. During a visit to Devonport Dockyard last Friday, he told The Herald: "I keep reading they are not safe, but they are. We are not scrapping them or putting them into mothballs. They are valuable for our Royal Marine commandos."
