CONSTRUCTION is about to start on the £45 million upgrade of the A386 in Plymouth.
The first phase of the ambitious scheme to alleviate congestion at the notorious Tavistock Road pinch-point between Woolwell roundabout and The George will begin on September 11 and take a year, with changes to speed limits, some road closures and diversions. and traffic delays likely.
Phase one will focus on creating a new signalised junction where Woolwell Crescent meets Tavistock Road, plus walking and cycling improvements on Woolwell Road and a two-way cycle track on Tavistock Road, north of Woolwell roundabout. Plymouth City Council said this will make it safer to travel by bike or on foot and will ease congestion, making public transport more reliable.
