ONE of Devon's best-known chefs has reopened a "phenomenal local pub" and wants it to be the sort of place where friends can meet for a bowl of cheesy chips and a pint.
The award-winning chef John Hooker is best known for running the gastro-themed Cornish Arms, in Tavistock, with his wife, Emma. Now the pair have invested in the Blacksmith's Arms, in nearby Lamerton.
Hundreds of people turned up for an "emotional" opening weekend and 500 meals were served. John says he wants the hostelry to celebrate the best elements of the 'Great British Pub! While the menu will retain the high standards set by his Tavistock establishment, the emphasis will be on serving classics and drinks in a relaxed, traditional pub atmosphere.
