Ursu stops Dujon to bring home Commonwealth title

Ursu has added the Silver Commonwealth title to his Southern Area strap after Dujon stayed in his seat at the end of the seventh round in a fierce performance on Saturday.

The Moldovan-born Southpaw stretched his unbeaten record to nine wins with a slick display which saw Dujon hit the canvas and take sufficient punishment for his corner to tell referee Marcus McDonnell he was not coming out for the eighth round.

Ursu’s successful amateur career has endowed him with powerful body shots, and it was blows to Dujon’s midriff which proved a successful plan of attack according to his trainer Marlee Dann.

Dann said: “Basically Constantin went out there, and was very disciplined. We had the gameplan of hitting Dujon to the body early to take the wind out of his sails, and bought him on to the back hand counters.

“He caught him a couple of times in the first round which made Dujon sit off and that gave Constantin room to adjust with Dujon’s attacks.

“So every time Dujon attacked, Constantin would step to the side or step off, attack, and change the angle, and his punches were landing perfectly on Dujon. He couldn’t adjust to what we had going on.

“We ultimately knew that Dujon was coming down to 147lb and he’d had a big weight cut, and we knew that by hitting him to the body, it would definitely have an effect on him.”
