In a seven-minute inaugural address during the 15-minute ceremony, Dissanayake noted that Sri Lanka was facing multiple challenges that required a massive effort and genuine contributions. "Because of what had taken place in recent history, people have lost trust in politics and politicians. Such a negative response did not augur well for a democracy. To restore public faith, I promise to lead by example and win people's trust. I will allow people to experience democracy and trustworthy politicians to restore their faith," he said.
