2024 was the year of elections the world over. These elections had a significant impact on the political scenario in many countries.
Among the around 73 national elections that were held in year 2024, the major highlights were the polls conducted in the top five most populous countries in the world namely India with a population of around 1.4 billion, the US with 334 million citizens, Indonesia with 277 million, Pakistan with 240 million and Bangladesh with 173 million people.
In India, the elections were held on April 19 and June 1. The election results were not as expected by a very confident Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) which had waded into the war of votes with the slogan 'Abki Baar 400 paar'. BJP with Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the helm, which was expected to have a landslide win, got a rude shock.
