CENTENARY CELEBRATION OF 1924 BELGAUM CONGRESS AND THE PATH TO SWARAJ

In September 1923, the All-India Congress Committee held a special session in Delhi, lifting the ban on Council-entry. Swarajists won many Legislative Council elections, but their success threatened Congress unity. Gandhi, still in jail, was absent at the 38th Congress session in Kakinada (Dec 1923-Jan 1924), where Mohamed Ali presided. The Ali Brothers worked tirelessly for unity, leading to a compromise between the Congress factions. This foundation was solidified at the Belgaum session under Gandhi's leadership.
