Inaugurating the two-day national seminar on 'Classical Kannada - Telugu Cultural Relationship' organised by CIIL's Centre of Excellence for Studies in Classical Kannada and KSOU's Telugu Studies and Research Centre at BOM auditorium on KSOU campus on Wednesday, Sundaram said people believe that idli belong to Tamilians, but the fact is the delicacy was started by Kannadigas.

"In the 12th century and 13th century Kannada literatures, there is reference to idlis. But today people consider idli and sambar was invented by Tamilians. Even dosa does not belong to Tamilians because in Tamil it should have been called as Those. But as Tamilians also call the food as dosa instead of Those, it is proved that the food is started by Kannadigas," he said.
