Though the city corporation and Shivamogga Smart City Limited (SSCL) jointly developed the conservancy lanes in the city by converting them into parking spaces, installing gym equipment and developing vending zones, the project has failed to serve its purpose due to low public participation. The facilities provided at the conservancies were underutilised. MLA S N Channabasappa said that public participation is crucial for any project's success; people need to utilise the facilities to the maximum extent for the project to serve its purpose.
