Transport troubles put education on slow lane

EVERY day at 7.30 am, the first bus to Vellore commences from Nayakaneri village, which only has an upper primary school till Class 8. A majority of the students from the village, who pursue high school education in Vellore, are completely dependent on the first bus for commuting, as the frequency drops during the day, with a headway up to three hours.

Students who could not board the first bus wait for the overcrowded bus at 8 am, which many residents - primarily farmers - use to sell their produce in town.

With the extremely low frequency of buses posing a challenge to students, the residents have urged the district administration to introduce one more bus during peak hours. The buses serve about 6,000 people across several villages, including Kuppampatti, Vaniyankulam and Kolavimedu.
