AT a time when the farmers have been preparing ground for harvesting the paddy expecting good yields in this Kharif season, the spread of 'Climbing Cutworm' (a sporadic pest caused severe damage to the paddy) disease has shattered the dreams of farmers in various parts of Vizianagaram district.
The pests reappeared after 15 years in the district and caused extensive damage to paddy, which is ready for harvest. Paddy in at least 10,000 hectares of 13 mandals was affected by the Climbing Cutworm disease.
