Leopard mauls four-year-old girl to death near Valparai

A four-year-old girl hailing from Jharkhand was mauled to death by a leopard at Oosimalai near Valparai in the Anamalai Tiger Reserve (ATR) around 2 pm on Saturday.

According to sources, the deceased has been identified as A Apsara. She had been staying with her father Anil Ansari, mother and aunt, at the PKT Tea Estate in Oosimalai Mattam for the past year, where they worked as labourers.

On Saturday, following a death in their area, Apsara's mother and aunt did not go to work. Later in the day, they took the girl along to collect greens near the estate. The leopard attack took place when Apsara was sitting alone on a rock, watching the women, sources said.
