THE Supreme Court on Thursday refused to transfer the rape and murder trial of a 31-year-old resident doctor from Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospital outside the state of West Bengal.

A three-judge bench led by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud stated that the trial court judge had sufficient authority to order a fresh investigation if deemed necessary after reviewing the evidence.

The request to transfer the trial was presented by a lawyer before the bench, which also comprised Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra. However, it was turned down.

Despite the lawyer emphasizing that the people of West Bengal are losing faith in police and judiciary, the court remained resolute.
