Storm over Amit Shah's remarks forced adjournment of both Houses of Parliament
Govt, Oppn trade barbs over Ambedkar in Parliament

The Congress-led Opposition, on Wednesday, raised a storm in Parliament protesting against Home Minister Amit Shah's remarks on Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar in the Rajya Sabha yesterday, forcing adjournment of both houses of Parliament without transaction of any business.

Led by Leaders of the Opposition, Rahul Gandhi in the Lok Sabha and Mallikarjun Kharge in the upper house, the Opposition charged Mr Shah with insulting the architect of the Constitution while replying to the two-day debate on the Constitution.

Putting up a strong defence for the home minister, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju, lashing out at the Opposition, said the Congress should stop misusing the name of the Father of the Constitution. He alleged the Congress was misleading the people. He said the Opposition party and some of its allies have taken out a small clip of the speech of Home Minister Amit Shah delivered in the Rajya Sabha yesterday, twisted it, and made it viral.

However, framing of the 'struggle for freedom' should inspire hope rather than despair, encouraging Americans to see themselves as agents of democratic renewal rather than passive observers of decline. America is not declining

Ravichandran Ashwin's shocking retirement call in the middle of the five-Test Border-Gavaskar series has drawn sharp criticism from batting maestro Sunil Gavaskar, who felt that the decision not only left India short of a player but also potentially robbed India's chances of featuring two experienced spinners in the final Test in Sydney, where conditions are expected to favour spinners.
