Justice Khanna will be the 51st CJI and will hold office for around 6 months.
As a Supreme Court judge, he has been part of the landmark judgments on Article 370, decriminalisation of adultery, electoral bonds scheme, EVM-VVPAT tally etc.
On 24 October, the Centre cleared the appointment of Justice Khanna to the highest judicial office of the country after incumbent CJI D.Y. Chandrachud recommended him as his successor last month.
