Hyderabad’s fashion fraternity was left shell-shocked and heartbroken as celebrity fashion designer Prathyusha Garimella was found dead at her studio in Banjara Hills on Saturday. She is suspected to have died by suicide, and police officials revealed they found a suicide note in her hand, in which she wrote that this was not the life she wished to lead and that she didn’t want to be a burden to her parents any longer.
Hailing from a prominent business family, the 35-year-old was a self-taught designer who rose to fame soon after the launch of her eponymous brand. She dressed some of the biggest names in Tollywood and Bollywood, including Shriya Saran, Lakshmi Manchu, Rakul Preet, Kajal Aggarwal, Gauahar Khan, Raveena Tandon, Neha Dhupia, Huma Qureshi, Rana Daggubati, Madhuri Dixit, Kajol, Juhi Chawla, Bhumi Pednekar, and sports icons like Sania Mirza, among others.
Prathyusha was also a popular face in Hyderabad’s social circuit and was a regular at parties that were frequented by celebrities. Police officials seized a carbon monoxide cylinder from her bedroom, and a case has been registered in the Banjara Hills Police Station under provisions related to suspicious death, and a further probe will be carried out.
