Fridge buyers get 6 yrs younger in a decade

Refrigerator owners are getting younger due to easier access to home loans and readily available EMIS on consumer durables.

The average age of a refrigerator consumer is estimated to be 34-35 years, according to industry sources. This was 3840 years about eight years ago in 2013-14. What's also gone up are repeat purchases of refrigerators, which is the second-most penetrated household appliance after the television.

According to data based on research just prior to the pandemic, close to 30% of customers are first-time buyers as compared to over 40% around 2013. This means, repeat buyers are nearly 70% as compared to about 60% in 2013.
