A bevy of stars, electrifying performances and a packed house – the 53rd edition of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) got off to a flying start in Goa on Sunday.

After two pandemic years, the festival returned to its full physical form and the excitement was palpable. “We aim to make India a powerhouse of content creation, especially regional cinema, by scaling up regional festivals,” said Anurag Thakur, Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting, at the inauguration, which saw Spanish filmmaker Carlos Saura being felicitated with the Satyajit Ray Lifetime Achievement Award.
