Oram, sources said, advised the opposition MPs to raise their demand for discussing Agnipath in the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha. However, the opposition MPS led by BSP's Danish Ali and Congress's KC Venugopal and Uttam Reddy insisted that the House panel was the right forum to raise the issue at, since it is entrusted with examining the budgetary allocations of the defence ministry.
Agnipath, they argued, has financial implications and, therefore, a discussion on the scheme falls squarely within the ambit of the House panel's mandate. Venugopal had earlier also written to Oram seeking discussion on Agnipath.
