Lt Gen Anil Chauhan (Retd) hails from Gawana village in the picturesque Khirsu block, which is not too far from late Gen Bipin Rawat’s Saina village, which is situated in the Dwarikhal block of the district.
Both Rawat, who died in a helicopter crash in December last year, and Chauhan belong to the same regiment, the 11 Gorkha Rifles. And both officers are considered experts on Chinese affairs.
“Two uniformed officers, who are not only from the same state but also from the same district have served in the same regiment and become the top military official of the country. This is a matter of pride for all of Uttarakhand,” said Col Ajay Kothiyal (Retd).
