The awarding of tenders for bioremediation treatment of sewage at wastewater treatment facilities (WWTFS) at four BMC sites has run into a controversy with the Opposition in the civic body, the BJP, alleging that the tenders have been rigged to accommodate specific bidders

BJP: Tenders for new tech at water treatment units rigged

Mumbai:  The total cost of the pilot project, which is being carried out at Ghatkopar, Bhandup, Versova and Malad WWTFS for two years, is around Rs 140 crore.

Vivekanand Gupta, city BJP unit secretary, in a letter to additional municipal commissioner P Velrasu, has alleged that the tenders were being awarded at 5% above the estimated cost. He sought cancellation of the tenders and a vigilance inquiry into the process.
