If all goes well, the much-awaited Gateway-Belapur water taxi would not only become a part of the city's system public transport ahead of the onset of 2023, but cost you Rs 200 one-way for a 30-minute 'green' journey less than half of what road taxi charges you today. A cab presently charges more than Rs 450-500 for a road journey on the same route and takes more than an hour during peak hours.

The Infinity Harbour Service, a private water taxi operator, is planning to launch a hybrid model (electric-diesel) water taxi service between Gateway of India and Belapur that will bring down the presently estimated one-way ticket of Rs 800 by four times. This will be largely possible as the new hybrid engine will reduce the present per hour fuel consumption of 140 litres of diesel to 30 litres.
