Penguin count at city zoo rises to 12 with 3 new chicks

The penguin family at Byculla zoo has gotten bigger. Three Humboldt penguins one of them a female were born over the past few months. With the announcement made on Friday, the penguin population at the city zoo has now risen to a dozen.

The three additions have been named Flash, a male born on April 2; Bingo, also a male, born on April 26; and the female chick Alexa who was born on August 9. While Donald and Daisy are the parents of Flash and Alexa, Bingo was born to Molt and Flipper.

The birth of the three fledglings was announced a day before Veermata Jijabai Bhosale Udyan Zoo, better known as Rani Bagh, completes 160 years of existence.

Last year too, a male chick named Oreo was born in May to Donald and Daisy. Also, a chick was born to Molt and Flipper on August 19 last year.
