Previous BMC audit on Covid-19 works incomplete: Panel members

Mumbai: Chief minister Eknath Shinde may have asked the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) to conduct a probe into BMC projects worth Rs 12,000 crore between November 28, 2019 and February 28, 2022, but members of BMC’s former standing committee claimed an audit carried out by the municipal chief auditor (MCA) on the committee’s order in December 2020 was carried out only for some proposals and never completed, nor were the audit reports tabled before the standing committee.

While the BMC spent around Rs 3,500 crore on Covid-19, the MCA audited works only worth Rs 265 crore and no reports were made, according to BMC officials.

“The CAG audit is welcome, but when I was standing committee chairman, after complaints from several corporators, a resolution was passed to audit 108 proposals related to Covid-19 by the MCA. However, the reports were not tabled before the committee,” former Shiv Sena corporator and standing committee chairperson Yashwant Jadhav said.
