Taking suo motu cognisance of an event held in Dilshad Garden on Sunday where BJP parliamentarian Parvesh Verma and the party's Loni MLA, Nand Kishor Gurjar, allegedly made inflammatory remarks against a community, Delhi Police on Monday registered an FIR against the organizers. Sources said police had also received a complaint of hate speech against Verma and other speakers, which was still being investigated.
"We have registered a case under IPC Section 188disobedience of order duly promulgated by a public servant in connection with the incident. The matter is under investigation," said a senior police officer. "We will examine the footage related to the speeches," another officer said requesting anonymity, adding that the event did not have requisite permissions.
