Farm Fire Count Declining But Next Seven Days Key

New Delhi: The daily stubble burning count has started reducing in north India. Even Punjab and Haryana have seen a reduction of 31% and 46% in farm fires, respectively, between September 15 and November 17 compared with last year. In the normal course, crop stubble burning starts declining from November 15 and gets over by November 30. However, experts said a clear trend for this season would emerge after a few days.

Satellites detected 966 farm fires in Punjab, 39 in Haryana and 50 in Uttar Pradesh on Thursday. However, the stubble burning counts were 2,647 in Punjab, 99 in Haryana and 36 in UP on November 12.
