Elections come and go, but problems persist. This may sound cynical to many, but residents of Gandhi Nagar in east Delhi seem to have lost hope of any improvement in the chaos they live in.
The constant conflict between the AAP government in Delhi and BJP at the Centre and at the helm of MCD, is taking a toll on development in Gandhi Nagar constituency, which is a hub of garment manufacturers and fabricators.
BJP's oft-repeated slogan, "double engine ki sarkar", echoes here too, but locals believe that unless Delhi government, the Centre and MCD work in tandem, the stink from garbage and open drains, traffic chaos and inadequate potable. water supply will continue to haunt them for years.
Former councillors and local functionaries pin the blame for the problems on shortage of funds and lack of resources. Gandhi Nagar assembly constituency has three wards Gandhi Nagar, Shastri Park and Azad Nagar - with a population of 1.65 lakh. All wards were won by BJP in the last elections.
