Nagpur/ Mumbai: Deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis announced on Wednesday that the state government would inquire why the Mira-Bhayander Vasai-Vira police took no action over Shraddha Walkar’s complaint letter of November 2020 against her live-in partner Aaftab Poonawala.

It mentioned Poonawala had attempted to kill her by suffocating her and given specific threats of cutting up her body. Earlier this year, he allegedly carried out the threat.

“I have gone through the letter and its contents are very serious. We need to investigate why no action was taken by the police,” said Fadnavis, who holds the home portfolio, during a visit to Nagpur. Adding he did not want to play a (political) blame game, Fadnavis said truth must come out. “If the police had acted on Shraddha’s letter, perhaps she would have been alive today,” he said.
