The Uddhav Thackeray faction of the Sena alleged on Shiv Wednesday that BMC chief Iqbal Chahal was deliberately sitting on the resignation of Rutuja Latke, the Uddhav camp's nominee for the Andheri East assembly bypoll, under pressure from the Eknath Shinde-Devendra Fadnavis government. Rutuja works as a clerk in the BMC. Sena MLC and ex-minister Anil Parab claimed there was pressure on Rutuja from the Shinde faction to either pull out of the race or join their faction for her resignation to be accepted.
Rutuja also moved the Bombay high court urging it to direct BMC to accept her resignation letter so that she could contest the bypoll.
Chahal, however, said that there was "no question of any pressure from the state government" and that her resignation was "under process". He said he had 30 days to decide on her resignation according to civic rules. "She applied on October 3 in the evening," he said.
