Epiphany by Any Other Name Is Still a Holiday
The Wall Street Journal|January 07, 2025
Jan. 6 is a multifaceted holiday, called the Feast of Epiphany, Three Kings Day and Theophany, depending on the Christian tradition doing the celebrating. Three Kings Day recalls the visit of three Magi, or wise men, to the infant Jesus. It falls the 12th day after Christmas and closes the Christmas season. Theophany marks the baptism of Jesus by John the Baptist. Orthodox Christians also know it as the Baptism of Christ. Some Eastern traditions, operating on the Julian calendar, mark Christmas on Jan. 7, making Jan. 6 Christmas Eve. The Armenian Apostolic Church celebrates Christmas on Jan. 6.
