Dallas Ly was convicted of killing and dismembering the body of his mother, Tien Ly (pictured). He will get an automatic life sentence, however his parole eligibility period has yet to be determined.

Dallas Ly apologized in court for killing and decapitating his mother at his sentencing hearing Friday after a jury convicted him of seconddegree murder in mid-May.

“I wanted to apologize for the damage I’ve done,” the 23-year-old said, standing in the prisoner’s box in downtown Toronto Superior Court.

“I know I’m not the type of person to lose control. I understand this was out of character for me and I take responsibility for my weakness,” he said, before turning to the body of court to thank “the people who have supported me.”
