The Quick Step-Alpha Vinyl rider will go to Spain in three weeks’ time with ambitions to win stages and get a high placing in the general classification.
His mood was visibly buoyed by his performance on Saturday when he was a class above his competitors, out-climbing both Simon Yates (BikeExchange-Jayco) and Pavel Sivakov (Ineos Grenadiers) before soloing away to victory.
