The 2023 World Cup ended with Australia beating India by six wickets in the final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad to clinch their sixth title. The Men in Blue were unbeaten heading into the summit clash but yet again faltered on the big day to lose the final in a disappointing fashion. Sent into bat after losing the toss on an abrasive surface, India struggled for momentum with the bat and were held to 240 all out. Rohit Sharma gave the team another good start, smashing 47 off 31. However, India could not maintain the momentum once he departed, despite half-centuries from Virat Kohli and KL Rahul. India’s bowlers fought hard in the chase at the start, but once Travis Head and Marnus Labuschagne settled in, it was all one-way traffic. Head hit a superb hundred, while Labuschagne scored a defiant hundred.
With the 2023 World Cup coming to an end, it’s time to look back at the team of the tournament.
OPENERS: ROHIT SHARMA (CAPTAIN), QUINTON DE KOCK (WICKETKEEPER)
Indian captain Rohit Sharma is the deserved leader of the pack. He set the tone for India with his selfless knocks, getting the team to some brilliant starts. It speaks a lot about Rohit’s talent that he finished as the second-leading run-getter in the 2023 World Cup (597 runs in 11 innings) despite his high-risk approach. No praise is too high for him.
