THE PUBLIC outrage around RG Snyman leaving Munster for Leinster was really weird. I just don’t get it.
Yes, the man has had some real problems with injury, but come on – he’s a double World Cup winner! He can go wherever he wants. People are banging on about loyalty, but he’s a South African lock with two world titles in his back pocket, so he can do whatever he wants in my eyes.
As soon as a player’s contract expires, they can talk to whoever they want to. All players who have been through the same scenario understand that perfectly and wish him well, want the best for him, want him to be healthy and to perform at Leinster. Where, by the way, he’s linking up with a coach that he just won a World Cup with.
So when you look on social media and get splashed with all the vitriol and the hate, I find myself thinking, ‘more power to him, it’s a great move.’
I think every rugby player on the planet would love to play for Leinster. And I think most clubs would love to have Snyman because... How do I put this delicately? I say this in the most positive way possible: he’s an absolute freak show. Of course you want him.
