Manish Kaushik
Roars back after seven-month injury lay-off

Making an emphatic return after a challenging seven-month hiatus due to injury, Olympian boxer Manish Kaushik showcased his undeniable skill in the men’s light welterweight category by clinching the gold medal at the 37th National Games in Goa. He is now setting his sights on securing a spot at the Paris Olympics.

Side lined by L4 and L5 disc pain, the 2019 world championships bronze medallist faced a significant absence during the 2023 season. His last match before this break saw him in a tough showdown against arch-rival Shiva Thapa of Assam, a six-time Asian championships medallist, in the semi-finals of the Senior National Boxing Championships.

Reflecting on this challenging phase, Manish expressed, “It was a tough journey dealing with severe disc pain. The doctor prescribed complete rest, which extended to seven months. Missing training sessions and crucial tournaments, including the Hangzhou Asian Games, was difficult, but it was crucial to prioritize my recovery and get my back in shape.”

Eager to secure a berth at the Paris Olympics, Manish affirmed his dedication by emphasizing an uninterrupted training regime leading up to the national championships. “The plan is clear – to clinch gold at the Nationals and secure a spot in the Olympic qualifiers held in Italy.
