BURNLEY'S JOEY JUST TWO GOOD

DELIGHTED boss Vincent Kompany hailed the strength of his Burnley squad after Johann Berg Gudmundsson came off the bench to score twice in Monday night’s win against nearest rivals Sheffield United.

After clinching promotion at Middlesbrough three nights before, the Clarets showed their professionalism to ease to victory against United, who were always up against it once keeper Wes Foderingham was sent off on 17 minutes for bringing down Nathan Tella just outside the box.

Paul Heckingbottom’s Blades, who had beaten Burnley 5-2 in November, held on until the hour mark, but half-time sub-Gudmundsson then struck twice in ten minutes to put the game to bed.

The Icelandic international fired home a low left-footed strike to give the Clarets the lead and then bagged his second with a close-range finish. The victory took Burnley to 90 points, a 14-point lead over second-placed United.

“We rely on the whole squad like we have done all season,” said Kompany. “Tonight it’s Joey that comes off the bench and makes the difference.
