The Clarets needed a fine 37th-minute equaliser from Connor Roberts to cancel out Anfernee Dijksteel's early strike for Boro as rain and wind battered Turf Moor.
Boro boss Carrick, starting his press conference by asking if anyone had a towel handy, said the conditions had been key to Roberts' 25-yard strike, which seemed to catch out goalkeeper Dieng.
Carrick restored Dieng to the starting line-up at the expense of Sol Brynn, who has deputised for the past three games, but the boss said: "Seny was touch and go last week, he could have made it.
"Sol has done well. It shows the squad and the healthy standards. I don't see that being any different to any other position.
