SIZZLING SARA'S OFF TO A FLYER

IT’S only the opening stages of the season, but Norwich’s Gabriel Sara, Wigan’s Charlie Wyke and Swindon’s Jake Young have already scooped silverware

The trio have been selected as the Sky Bet EFL Player of the Month winners for August in the Championship, League One and League Two respectively.

Brazilian midfielder Sara has played an important role in Norwich’s bright start to the season in the second tier. A goal and two assists don’t tell the full story of his touch, vision and passing ability which created 17 chances in four games.

However, the 24-year-old was quick to downplay his own contribution to the Canaries’ cause.

“The whole team is part of this,” said Sara, who had appendix surgery in the summer. “We are not playing alone, we are always together.

“This is for my colleagues, my team and for all the supporters. We are together and it’s for us.”

Sky Sports’ EFL pundit Don Goodman, part of the judging panel, said: “Averaging over four chances created per game, Sara has been pivotal to the Norwich attack and he even chipped in himself with a strike.”
