That run-in begins at home to Crawley on Monday, but Wild was angry at the award of the first of two penalties his side conceded at Crewe.

Former Crewe defender George Ray was judged to have fouled Connor O’Riordan at a corner and Wild said: “It was very frustrating the first penalty, as that sort of thing happens at every corner every weekend and nothing is ever given.

“To give a penalty against us was absolutely ludicrous and it set the tone for the rest of the afternoon.
