Equipped with M4, M4 Pro, and M4 Max chips, the new MacBook Pro models integrate advanced machine learning capabilities, enhanced processing power, and a suite of improvements tailored to creatives, data scientists, engineers, and more.
INTRODUCING M4
At the core of the new MacBook Pro lineup is the M4 family of chips, meticulously crafted using second-generation 3-nanometer technology, setting new standards for efficiency and power. Apple says that the new M4, M4 Pro, and M4 Max chips boast an industry-leading performance per watt ensuring that even the most demanding tasks can be handled without sacrificing battery life. The M4 family doesn’t merely iterate on its predecessors; it leaps forward in efficiency and processing power. The M4 Pro and M4 Max versions mainly cater to professionals needing intense multitasking, high-resolution rendering, and rapid simulations. Equipped with up to 16 CPU cores, 40 GPU cores, and an astonishing 128GB of unified memory, these chips deliver workstation-level performance in a compact form factor. This places the new models atop the professional laptop market, outperforming their Intel-based and early Apple Silicon predecessors.
These performance advancements translate directly into practical results for professionals. For instance, in demanding applications like Maxon Redshift, the M4 Pro renders scenes up to four times faster than Intel Core i9 models, and the M4 Max performs these tasks 3.5 times faster than its predecessor, the M1 Max. For functions such as AI-driven base-calling in DNA sequencing, the MacBook Pro with M4 Max is over 30 times faster than comparable Intel models, reflecting the strength of these chips across diverse workloads.
