Tecno Pova 3

A large screen and high-capacity battery combines with decent gaming capability in this value-for-money phone

Tecno has suddenly become quite active with a slew of recent launches. Pova 3 is the brand's gaming powerhouse for Gen Z users who need a phone that is affordable yet doesn't restrict gaming and entertainment.

The Tecno Pova 3 feels like a brick with an extremely large profile and a tough-looking body weighing around 230 g. The polycarbonate back flexes quite a lot yet doesn't feel fragile at all, and the phone is IPX2 splashproof. The device is offered in Tech Silver, Eco Black and Electric Blue colours. The Electric Blue version features a blue LED notification light at the rear. The phone is 173.1 mm tall, 9.44 mm thick, and houses a large 6.9-inch FHD+ display.

The screen refresh rate can be switched between 60 and 90 Hz. The device also offers a 180 Hz touch sampling rate. The Pova 3 uses a MediaTek Helio G88 octa-core gaming processor and offers two variants with 4 GB RAM / 64 GB ROM and 6 GB RAM /128 GB ROM. The phones feature memory fusion or Techno's version of RAM expansion to boost the RAM up to 5GB when needed. Gaming proved quite smooth and efficient on the large screen, and it could handle FPS games like Call of Duty quite smoothly. The automatic refresh rate proved inefficient while watching movies and we had to resort to manually switching to 60 Hz every time banding was seen.
