Located just a few hours away from the bustling capital city of Bangkok, Khao Yai offers a much-needed escape from the chaos of urban life.
ROAMING AROUND
Established in 1962, Khao Yai National Park was the first national park in Thailand and is part of a larger forest complex that received UNESCO World Heritage status in 2005. Covering an area of 2,168 km², Khao Yai is the third largest national park in Thailand. The park’s name, which means “Big Mountain” in Thai, is derived from its highest peak, Khao Rom, which stands at 1,351 m.
With over 2,000 species of plants, 300 species of birds, 70 species of mammals and 70 species of reptiles, Khao Yai is a haven for nature enthusiasts. The park is characterised by its diverse flora and fauna, breathtaking scenery and numerous caves and waterfalls waiting to be explored.
EXPLORING THE BEAUTY OF NATURE
Trekking Adventures
One of the best ways to experience the beauty of Khao Yai National Park is through trekking. The park offers a range of trails suitable for all levels of hikers. Whether you prefer a short loop trail or a longer hike to a waterfall, there is something for everyone.
For shorter treks, you can explore a 1.2 km paved loop around the visitor centre or a 3 km trail that connects two waterfalls in the park. These trails are relatively easy and can be done without a guide.
If you're up for a more challenging adventure, consider hiking an 8 km trail. It takes around 5 hours to complete the hike and leads you to the majestic Haew Suwat waterfall. It's important to note that a park ranger guide is required for this trek to ensure your safety and prevent you from getting lost in the jungle.
