The news was announced with the minimum of fanfare. Proud mum Princess Eugenie shared two sweet photos on her Instagram account of her brand-new baby boy, Ernest George Ronnie Brooksbank, including one with his besotted big brother, August, two, placing a gentle hand on his head.
“Augie is loving being a big brother already,” wrote Eugenie, 33.
She explained that she and husband Jack Brooksbank, 37, chose George as a middle name for their second son after Jack’s dad, who died in 2021, and her great-great-grandfather, King George V (who had Ernest as one of his middle names). Ronnie comes from her grandfather Ronald Ferguson, father of Sarah, Duchess of York.
The announcement on June 5 also revealed that Ernest, who weighed in at 7.1lb [3.2kg], had been born a week earlier, on May 30. Being able to keep the arrival of their new family member under wraps for so long is indicative of the fact that Ernest, like his big brother, can expect to grow up largely out of the spotlight.
