She’s one of the most famous women in the world, with her every move in public well documented, yet we’re still learning new details about what the Princess of Wales does in private.
Several glimpses into what she’s like behind closed doors were revealed when Kate and her husband Prince William appeared on a podcast co-hosted by Mike Tindall, who is married to William’s cousin Zara. Kate, 41, talked about her sporty nature and admitted to a passion for cold-water swimming.
“Personally, I love swimming wherever I can,” she said. “Cold swimming – the colder the better. I absolutely love it, slightly to the point where William’s saying, ‘Catherine, you’re crazy!’ And it’s dark and it’s raining, and I’ll go out and seek out cold water. I love it.”
However, she has her limits. “I wouldn’t want to be put through my paces with a freezing sub-zero ice bath,” she said, referencing a trend that is said to have health benefi ts.
Mike, 44, then added that Kate tries to rope in other members of the royal family when it comes to swimming in chilly water.
“I quite like it when we all get together because she will make me do something that… urgh! I’ve got to get in.”
The former English rugby star also joked about a less conventional “sporting” pursuit in which Kate’s been known to partake. “I’ve seen her play beer pong!” he said. Kate simply smiled in response. (Beer pong involves trying to throw ping pong balls in cups of beer. When someone succeeds, their opponents have to drink the beer.)
