As I walked into the bride- to-be’s hotel room, with five minutes to go before the ceremony began, she suddenly leapt to her feet and locked the door. ‘I can’t do this,’ she exclaimed. ‘I hate the groom.’ Calmly, I told her I could get us a car to take her away, but said I wouldn’t be able to sleep at night unless she talked to the groom first. She agreed, and after fetching him and telling him his bride didn’t want to get married, I stood outside the room and ran through everything I’d have to do in order to cancel the wedding at such short notice.

While most people would have been extremely stressed by the situation, I remained calm and impartial, as I’d been secretly hired by the bride as a professional bridesmaid, to make sure her wedding went smoothly and to sort any problems that came up. With eight years’ experience as an undercover bridesmaid and 125 weddings under my belt, I knew exactly what to do.
