The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are at it again…
First there was speculation that Wills and Kate had effectively driven them out of
Kensington Palace after their relationship turned sour. Then it was the dreadful courtiers and a racist royal who drove them out of the family and eventually the UK.
Now, reportedly, they have claimed they are ‘repeatedly unlucky’ in the timings of their business endeavours and that in the case of Spotify they were set up to fail.
For all the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune that are thrown against them… it’s always someone else’s fault.
Spotify ditching them and their £18 million deal after just one series of Meghan’s Archetypes podcasts? That was because the Queen died in the middle of the 12-episode run and so, out of respect, they hit pause on the series until a period of mourning was over, which affected publicity.
Gosh, how inconvenient.
The negativity surrounding their Oprah Winfrey interview in March 2021, where they suggested that a member of the Royal Family (they later clarified it wasn’t the late Queen or Prince Philip, setting even more hares racing) had questioned their unborn child’s skin colour, so unleashing a racism storm?
That was due to it being overshadowed by the failing health of the Duke of Edinburgh, who died shortly afterwards. (Obviously nothing to do with inflicting such pain on the elderly Queen when her husband of 73 years was severely ill in hospital).
And attempts to rebrand themselves as global do-gooders, bringing their celebrity sheen and munificence to help charities raise money, was confounded by COVID-19 (which followed within weeks of their departure as working royals, in March 2020), which meant that everyone had to stay at home.
