10 HEALTHY WAYS TO STAY WARM

\Winter is in full swing, which means it's likely you've switched on your central heating.

Worried about energy bills? You're not alone. With prices continuing to soar and Christmas on the horizon, it can often feel like a daily battle between being warm and awaiting a head-spinning hit on your bank account.

Luckily, there are plenty of healthy and cost-effective - steps you can take to stay warm. From circulation-boosting foods to blood-pumping exercise, here's what will help you to fight the cold.

1 SIP SPICES

Swap your usual cuppa for a spicy brew. 'Warming spices can help you this winter, says nutritionist Jessica Sepel. 'Make a hot nut milk drink with cinnamon or a fresh ginger tea. Add chopped ginger root to a saucepan of water, bring to the boil and simmer for up to 10 minutes. Strain and add honey or lemon to taste.

2 TRY YOGA

'Stretching muscles and joints can reduce stiffness and cramping in cold weather, and a dynamic, flowing practice will heat the body internally,' explains yoga expert Cheryl MacDonald*.

3 RAISE YOUR HEART RATE

Working out is a fail-safe way to get warm. Cardio exercise increases your heart rate by 50-80%, which gets blood moving around the body and raises your core body temperature. Try cycling, skipping or an online aerobics class. Even a brisk walk will get your blood pumping.
