As summer gets into full swing, woman&home takes a look at where the Royal Family go for rest and relaxation

Barbados 

Ensuring that royal duties don’t make for all work and no play, King Charles III is known to enjoy a day off. Barbados may have removed his mother as head of state in 2021, but it remains part of the Commonwealth and a favourite of King Charles and Queen Camilla, who in the past have donned their bathers on the beach and enjoyed a dip in the Barbadian waters.

Balmoral Castle, Aberdeenshire

When it comes to staycations, Balmoral Castle remains one of the royals’ favourites. Unlike other royal residences – such as Buckingham Palace and Windsor Castle – that are owned by the Crown and funded by taxpayers, Balmoral belongs to the monarchy, and was passed down to Charles after the Queen passed away there last September. Speaking of her grandmother’s love of the home, Princess Eugenie once commented, ‘I think Granny is most happy there.’
