Almost 20 years after she won our hearts on Australian Idol, Jessica Mauboy is still riding high on top of the charts. And with her latest album, Yours Forever, set to do the same this week, Jess, 34, talks to Woman's Day about what she says is her most vulnerable work to date, why she was scared to release it and how married life is treating her.
Tell us a little about your journey to Yours Forever...
Yours Forever has been a long time in the making. It’s a body of work which has come straight from my heart and soul. The songs are all stories from my personal experiences, and I feel vulnerable sharing it, as it’s like letting the world peek into my personal journals that I’ve been writing since I was a little girl. There’s actually a song on the record which is just that. It’s called Whitney and it talks about how I grew up writing in my journal every night and how I dreamed of performing for the greats! It’s amazing to think back now and reflect… as a little girl, I wanted to be a singer when I grew up, and now I’m here living that dream. I get to wake up every day and share music with the world. I’m forever grateful for the journey, and this record is like sharing all of me.
