In the world of movies, there's no one more respected than Margaret Pomeranz. Since 1986, the silver screen queen has been talking all things cinema on shows such as SBS' The Movie Show and ABC's At The Movies alongside equally beloved critic David Stratton.
"Even if I wasn't involved with the movies in my career, I would still go to see two or three films per week," says the 78-year-old.
Margaret says she enjoys watching "anything that's good", with her favourite film being Robert Altman's 1975 classic Nashville, and has only ever walked out on a movie once. She couldn't stand watching the 2003 remake of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. "It was just torture porn!" she said.
Thankfully, her list of movies to enjoy over the break includes only the best of the best, so get your popcorn ready and enjoy!
NASHVILLE (1975) The Academy Award-winning film is Margaret's all-time favourite. "Written by Robert Altman and collaborator Joan Tewkesbury, this sprawling musical comedy-drama reflected the mood of cynicism in the US post-Watergate," Margaret said while promoting the Asia Pacific Screen Forum in 2016. "It seemed to me a lament for all the lost ideals that we had had about society, with just one tiny note of optimism at the end. Nashville galvanised me into being a passionate advocate of cinema."
